The DARSENA is the pulsing heart of Siracusa, a seaside town, where old boats, sailing ships
and fishing boats took refuge, returning after a long and tiring work at sea. After unloading
their goods, the sailors took refuge in the old inns that overlooked the dock. In these places of
meeting and refreshment, seafarers of any nationality with same interests met each other and
intertwined trade relations.
Our story begins back in 1965
In the beautiful dock of Siracusa, unique in its kind, divided by the famous Umbertino Bridge,
opened in 1965 the "Osteria-Trattoria la DARSENA da Ianuzzo". Its owner, Ianuzzo,
immediately started its own catering business always serving its customers only fresh fish,
cooked according to the traditions of the typical Sicilian cuisine but especially Syracusan.
Taking advantage of the discharge of fish from fishing boats, which took place in front of his
restaurant, Ianuzzo has always had the best quality of fish. All this meant that the trattoria the
"Darsena da Ianuzzo" was always a step ahead of the competition. But the real strength was
Don Ianuzzo who, with his splendid smile and his captivating way of welcoming the clientele,
immediately putting her at ease, created an atmosphere that made always the client feel like
he was in a familiar environment. His restaurant business continued in the following years to
establish itself more and more obtaining praises and awards, not only locally but also

In the catering evolution the tavern became a restaurant. During this transformation Don
Ianuzzo continued his activity with sagacity and determination, collaborating in the following
years with his son Gaetano, who in the meantime became executive chef of the restaurant. The
kitchen of our executive chef Gaetano is inspired by the wisdom and experience that his
father, during his youth, has transmitted to him. His culinary art is full of innovations and
reinterpretations of fish dishes, but trying to keep intact the traditions typical of the Siracusan
Today, more than half a century later, the "LA DARSENA da IANUZZO" restaurant is one of the
best seafood restaurants in the city of Syracuse.
